11.02.2005 About enlarging international contacts of the RATS SCO
Essentially the Regional Anti-Terrorist Structure (RATS) of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) has finished the period of organizational standing and entered in a new stage of arranging and deepening effective cooperation with the competent services of the SCO member countries and the other international organizations on the priority directions of its activity.
As we reported before, since its functioning (January 1, 2004), the representatives of the RATS SCO have participated directly in the work of a number of international meetings on the problem of fighting with terrorism, separatism and extremism, in the exercises and in the other activities, carried out by the SCO member countries and international organizations.
So, in the current year the Director of the Executive Committee of the RATS SCO took part in the work of the 4th Special Meeting of the UN Counter-Terrorist Committee (CTC) with international, regional and sub-regional organizations held in January 26-28 of this year in Almaty and in the 2nd Annual Worldwide Security Conference carried out by «East West Institute» and World Custom Organization in February 7-8 of this year in Brussels.
In his speeches at these events the Director of the EC RATS SCO, Kasymov V.T., said about the history of setting and functioning of the RATS SCO, organizational issues overcome in the period of standing, activities held in the first year of work of the Organization and the achieved real positive results of its activity. He also noted that the Regional Anti-Terrorist Structure of the SCO – comparatively young structure, and it was interested in increasing cooperation with the other international and regional organizations, interacting with them and gaining their experiences of counteracting terrorism, separatism and extremism. At that time noting an interest that world community as soon as possible would recognize the RATS SCO as a competent participant in the struggle against international terrorism expressed the hope of the further effective cooperation.
The Director of the EC RATS SCO, Kasymov V.T., expressed the confidence that the new threats to peace and stability posed by international terrorism and organized transnational crime might be substantially neutralized due to the concentration of efforts of the different institution of the world community.
